Pastor Leighton David Smith is the founder and late Pastor of Faith Evangelistic Ministries at 90 William Street in downtown Manhattan. Pastor Smith was born on September 3, 1958 in Jamaica, W.I. in Higgin Town St. Ann and went to be with the Lord on January 11, 2012.
As a young man he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma while still in Jamaica. Pastor Smith migrated to the United States on May 21, 1983. Later that year in the summer he was healed after listening to a radio broadcast and holding on to a word preached by R.W. Shambach, “You shall live and not die!”
Pastor Smith then worked at Merrill Lynch for a number of years before opening his own business called Prompt Courier.
In 1988, Pastor Smith met a beautiful young lady in a yellow dress while waiting to board a flight from New York to Jamaica. It was love at first sight and he was convinced this was the woman of his dreams. Upon discovering that she lived at 7 Manley Avenue, Kingston 7 and worked at 7 Oxford Road, the numerical sequence served as confirmation that Marjorie Deloris Brown was definitely the woman with whom he desired to spend the rest of his life. They pursued a short courtship and got married that same year. He was married to wife Marjorie Smith for 23 years.
In 1995 Pastor Smith started a bible study with 5 people in his office at 5 Beekman Street, New York City. This small group grew to become Faith Evangelistic Ministries. In 1998 he published a book based on prophetic teaching called “SAY NO TO THAT MARK.” This book is both nationally and globally recognized.
Pastor Smith was officially ordained by Pastor Rod Parsley of World Harvest Church in Columbus, Ohio and also at Faith Evangelistic Ministries by Bishop Dr. Al Baxter. Pastor Smith’s deep knowledge and insight into the prophetic message as it relates to end-time events, led him to produce and host the popular weekly radio broadcast “Countdown” for 14 years, which still airs on WMCA 570 AM. His ministry took him to over 39 nations, from Africa to Australia, from Europe to the Caribbean.
Pastor Leighton Smith wore many hats. He founded the Countdown Ministries, Jamaica, W.I. in the same district where he was born. This work continues to grow under the dedicated leadership of Pastor Boswell Raymond.  Pastor Smith also served as the overseer of Faith Evangelistic Ministries Brooklyn Assembly, which is under the leadership of Pastor Roger Weller, and also as President of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship, Greater New York Chapter for 3 years.

So it may lead some to wonder if we should really be holding fast to this tradition. Continue reading
